Welcome to the Boulder Cleaners News- our monthly newsletter to support your household with timely knowledge on how to maintain your favorite clothes and other items.

Caring for High Tech Fabrics

In the last few years, modern technology has introduced us to a variety of new fabrics. Fabrics that have been designed to resist bacteria, and keep you cool, warm, or dry are now readily available to the public. According to the International Fabricare Institute (IFI), most skiwear items are quite durable and should last at least two or three years if they are cared for properly. Boulder Cleaners realizes how rain, snow and wind can ruin fabrics and dull colors, while robbing garments of their ability to keep the wearer dry.

Outerwear Dry Cleaning Tips

Skiwear can be dry cleaned or washable, depending on the fiber content of the shell fabric and lining. To keep your skiwear looking great for several years, here are some helpful tips:

• Be sure to clean these items often, since they frequently get stained or soiled. Follow the care instructions on the label. It is essential to keep your outerwear clean of dirt and grease in order to retain the waterproof and breathable performance of your garment. If the pores of the fabric get blocked, the water molecules are allowed to seep through the dirt and through the fabric.

• Avoid excess temperatures when drying, even if the item is machine washable. The inner linings used to hold the filler materials in most ski jackets may stiffen or shrink. (When in doubt, feel free to ask your Boulder Cleaners representative!)

Why Water Repellent?

Cleaning a garment not only removes soil and dirt, but it also removes the existing Water Repellent that has been applied either by the manufacturer or by the drycleaner. This is why it is important to have Outerwear garments water repelled each time that they are cleaned to ensure their durability and longevity. Water repellent treatment restores the resiliency of the garment to rain, snow and stains, while preserving the garment’s comfortable look and feel and extending the life of your outerwear.

Water Repellent treatment of your outerwear garments will:

• Help keep you dry!
• Ensure their resistance to rain, snow and stains.
• Require less frequent cleaning.
• Actually increase the life expectancy of the garment.
